First Street Finds is the second booth mall opened by lifelong Catawba County natives Eric and Betty Hall. The first is Fantastic Finds, which opened in February, 2004 to the delight of local collectors, decorators and browsers. After seeing the business grow from 8 dealers on opening day to nearly 200 in a matter of less than 5 years, the Halls began considering another location somewhere in the area.
With Fantastic Finds being over 17,000 square feet, they decided that they wanted the second store to be smaller, more intimate, and in a central downtown setting if possible. After several years of considering locations in other cities, the decision was made to set up shop in downtown Conover.
In October, 2014 a two-story brick building built in 1950 became available, and the wheels began to turn. After nearly 65 years of use as a hardware store, clothing outlet and antique shop, the interior of the building was in dire need of a good cleaning, a lot of fresh paint and some minor remodeling.
The first floor of First Street Finds was opened for business in early March, 2015 while work continued upstairs. Several months later the second floor was opened in early July. There are currently about three dozen different dealers offering a wide variety of merchandise at very reasonable prices, with new vendors joining the family every week.
There is limited parallel parking on the street in front of the store, but if you don't see a space available or if you prefer easier parking, please park in the large landscaped public parking area behind the store and use our rear entrance. The parking area in the rear can be accessed from First Street West or First Avenue North (Hwy. 16)...just look for the street signs that read "NW Alleyway".
Here are some photos of the store, but don't depend on everything that you see in the photos being in the store when you visit. This isn't a "big box" store with regular shipments of the same mass-produced items coming in to restock the shelves. Instead, you will find that our inventory is constantly changing as our dealers bring in unique and one-of-a kind items on a daily basis including furniture, wall hangings, pottery, glassware, tools, books, jewelry, yard art, textiles, seasonal decorations and the list goes on.
Stop in and visit with us soon...we look forward to seeing you and you'll be glad you did.
